A BEACH BUNGALOW NEAR BIARRITZ, FRANCE

4-eethoek-wit

When Constance and Dorian bought this house near Biarritz, France, in 2006 it was in ruin. There were only three walls left and an extensive renovation, which lasted about eight years, was necessary to turn the 1940’s house into a warm and cozy family home. Constance drew inspiration from the white houses in Greece. Rattan accessories, light wood and sheepskins give the decor a Scandinavian look & feel. The pastel accent colors give a feminine touch. Lovely!

nathome6

I love this Gothenburg (Sweden) apartment which is decorated in lovely subtle color palette of white, grey, cream and beige. Natural materials such as rattan and wood give a warm touch. The bedroom, styled with chunky knit pillows and linnen bedding, looks cozy and serene. The two-room apartment is for sale!

MY REPORT FROM MAISON ET OBJET 2015 IN PARIS

masion8

Last weekend I was in Paris to visit Maison et Objet, one of the largest and most important interior trade shows in the world. Eight grand halls are packed to the brim with brands and designers showing their latest collections and newest products. It is the major event for professionals working in the field of furnishings & design. And it is here where every brand want to be! With many exhibition stands there is a lot of ground to cover so it can be overwhelming . The best strategy is, especially when you have limited time, to plan ahead and use the available floor plan. My favorite halls were Hall 1 ECLECTIC where you can find an eclectic mix of design and decoration from all over the world, and Hall 8 where the new generation of designers is playing with forms and mixing styles with talent and inventiveness. Below you can see some of the highlights of my trip!

A STUNNING OAK KITCHEN IN A COPENHAGEN HOME

oak-kitchen1

A kitchen made of wood has been on my wish list for a long time. But when renovating our home a few years ago we chose to have white kitchen cabinets (you can see our kitchen here) as we already had a wooden floor (and we did not want to have ‘wood on wood’). Although we are happy with our kitchen, seeing these stunning oak kitchen cabinets designed by Gardehvalsoe make me slightly wonder if we made the right choice. The darker colored wood of the cabinets works wonderfully well with the lighter foor. The beautiful Copenhagen home belongs to world renowned chef René Redzepi, who wanted a long kitchen cabinet along the window, and a kitchen island with room for preparation and storage. The kitchen cabinet along the window is in one piece, a total of 5.6 meters and drawers of 70 cm in width. Dinesen’s long floorboards gives a unique look in the drawer fronts from start to finish, as the fronts horizontally have been created out of one plank, so you get a continuous flow of grain patterns. The browned brass sink complements Dinesen HeartOak really well, giving an exclusive look.

AN OLD FARMHOUSE BECOMES A DREAM HOME IN PORTUGAL

cotesud1

After the success of their wooden cabins in Comporta, Joao and Andreia Rodrigues turned their attention to an old family farm set among 400 hectares of wildflower fields, lakes and cork groves near the hill top village of Montemor-o-Novo in Alentejo, an unspoiled part of Portugal. The house, which is named Casa No Tempo, has been in the family for years and it was their granddad’s wish for them to look after it until the next generation. With his vision in mind, they aimed higher by connecting the past with the future. The extensive renovation was carried out by a good friend, architect Manuel Aires Mateus. The owner’s main concern was to have the house open to vastness of the property and welcome nature’s gift through the large windows of every room. The house, which can be rented, has four suites which are all spacious with a mixture of modern bedding and local wooden furniture. You can find more information about this stunning property more information here.
