THE STYLE FILES Fri, 24 Apr 2015 09:40:37 +0000 en-US hourly 1 A COLORFUL FAMILY BEACH HOME IN SANTA BARBARA Fri, 24 Apr 2015 09:38:53 +0000 Continue reading ]]>

This colorful Santa Barbara beach abode belongs Gina Tolleson, a former model and Miss World 1990, and her three sons. The three bedroom family home, decorated in a nomadic chic style, is perfect for their outdoor life style. The colorful, global furnishings and textiles are sourced on Gina’s travels to India, Morocco, South America, Bali and Africa. The bright pink wall of the outdoor room (3rd image) was inspired by a 40th-birthday trip to Rajasthan. What I love most of this home is the uplifting and fun vibe it has!

A BOHEMIAN CHIC HOME IN FLORIDA Thu, 23 Apr 2015 09:01:06 +0000 Continue reading ]]>

This gorgeous bohemian chic home with mid century elements belongs to Elizabeth, a macramé artist (which explains the beautiful wall hangings), musician Tim McTague and their three children. The Florida house was fairly new when they moved in and did not have the advantage of an older home which often have lots of character and architectural details. But over the years the family has turned the interior into something special and unique. Vintage furniture pieces, various textiles, the guitars and the macramé hangings give the space a lot of character and personal charm. You can see and read more about this home on Design*Sponge.

IKEA’S WIRELESS CHARGING FURNITURE & ACCESSORIES Wed, 22 Apr 2015 07:08:50 +0000 Continue reading ]]>

Messy charting cable are now history! IKEA has created a collection of furniture and home accessories that make charging a lot more available, yet a lot less obvious. These products are called wireless chargers, because that’s what they are: a range of products that make it possible to charge your smartphone, without cables. They blend in beautifully with your home, and can easily be placed where you need them the most. All without having to chase after outlets or hide messy cables. IKEA: “With smartphones being such a natural part of our lives, we want the charging part to become a natural part of our homes. As a result, we’ve created a collection of wireless chargers that make charging a lot more available, yet a lot less obvious (goodbye messy cables!).” You can see the entire range here.

A BEDROOM WITH A SOFT PINK KILIM RUG Tue, 21 Apr 2015 07:46:34 +0000 Continue reading ]]>

kilim bedroom

This bedroom is a good example of how a rug can give color and warmth to a room. Imagine this space without the kilim style rug and it a bit cold and plain. Also, a large rug can cover up a floor that is not that beautiful. This particular wooden floor has a yellow tone (which I do not like) but with a large rug this is less noticeable. More rugs and vintage items can be found throughout the entire home, which you can see here. Similar vintage kilim rugs are available from Le Souk. At the end of the post you can see some with pink tones.

PICKLE POTTERIE HANDMADE MUGS Thu, 16 Apr 2015 07:50:01 +0000 Continue reading ]]>

I love all things handmade, especially pottery! This handcrafted mug from Stephanie Adams’ Pickle Pottery is wheel-thrown in California. Pickle Pottery is unique because each piece is hand made and hand decorated by the maker, Stephanie Adams. It is truly a labor of love. Stephanie believes the beauty in the work is seeing the makers make, embracing the Wabi Sabi aesthetic. Each piece is unique, different, and one of a kind. Simply beautiful!

A MODERN & BRIGHT HOME IN AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND Wed, 15 Apr 2015 07:12:26 +0000 Continue reading ]]>

This 1910′s double bay-fronted villa has been renovated and modernized by Jo, who is the owner of boutique PR agency Switch PR, and her husband Chris. No major structural changes where needed, but many cosmetic updates occurred. Jo and Chris added new flooring, lots of cabinetry in the kitchen and third bedroom, and two skylights. The open-plan lounge/kitchen/dining area now opens out onto a renovated rear courtyard garden with a pool.

A BEAUTIFUL RUSTIC KITCHEN IN A LONDON HOME Fri, 10 Apr 2015 17:40:08 +0000 Continue reading ]]>

rustic kitchen 3

I am loving this kitchen by London based studio Mark Lewis Interior Design. The reclaimed wood cabinets and large farmhouse style sinks give the kitchen a rustic touch. I think these kind of kitchens have a more cozy feel compared to sleek, modern kitchens. What do you think? Do you prefer rustic or modern?

GET YOUR CLOSET ORGANIZED WITH VIRTUAL CLOSET SPACE Fri, 10 Apr 2015 06:00:00 +0000 Continue reading ]]>

I just love an organized closet. Not only does it look better but it is also more efficient as it much easier to find things you need in an organized closet. The reality is that my closet doesn’t look anything like these organized spaces in the images in this post. Every morning I spend too much time combining clothes and look for things I can not find. This causes frustration and when your closet is a jumble, your day begins in with chaos. So one of my resolutions for this Spring was to clean up my wardrobe. I am fed up with stuffing my belongings in every every nook that I could find and then spend lots of time finding them again when I need them.

My strategy is to store my out-of-season (winter/summer) clothes out of the way. As I don’t have much storage space in my home I was very happy with the offer by Spaceboxx to try out their virtual closet space. Within minutes I had ordered 7 boxes through their website and had scheduled a suitable pick-up date (this can be as fast as within 4 hours). And they not only store clothes but also larger items such as furniture pieces or bikes. All items will be kept in a secure place and when I need anything I can have it back with just one mouse click. The very fast service (within 4 hours all desired items can be brought back again) and the ease of use of the website is what makes Spaceboxx very interesting. And compared to regular storage space (where you have to bring and pick up the items yourself) this service is very affordable.

Do you want to get organized as well? Good news for Dutch readers: Spaceboxx offers you to try out their virtual storage service for free. With code FA0415 you can store up to 15 boxes + 3 larger items for three months for free. Just go to their website and follow the easy steps. Within a few hours you can have an organized closet (and home)!

This post is created in collaboration with Spaceboxx. Words and opinions are my own.
