black home accessories

Today some home accessories in black. Perhaps my preference for black has something to do with the weather: it is a dark and wet day in The Netherlands today…

dandelion clocks

This Dandelion Clocks fabric (above) and wallpaper (below) really fit in the turquoise trend I posted about.

The wallpaper and fabric are made by British company Sanderson. Click here to view stockists.

black & white house in florence, italy

I recently did some posts about using the colour black in interiors. This black & white apartment in the beautiful city Florence, Italy, shows how stylish a black interior can be.

The interior is designed by Italian architect firm b-arch studio. Perhaps you remember the gorgeous 18th century palazzo that they restyled.

turquoise: trend colour for spring & summer

The turquoise will be a trend colour for Spring and Summer. Above you can see a preview of Zara Home’s new collection.

Perhaps Spring and Summer seem far way (at least in this part of the world) but here are some suggestions for creating a summery atmosphere in your home: cushion with golden sequins arranged in a pretty floral pattern, porcelain tea cup with Egyptian pattern in turquoise and gold, a beautiful jug made from mouth-blown colored glass, multicoloured blanket with fringe, set of four tumblers in beautiful shades of blue and green, table runner in ramie with a gay, multicoloured, embroidered floral pattern, Japanese style plain silk cushion with matching bows, turquoise place mat with matching metallic thread and beaded edges. I personally can’t wait for Spring to arrive!

ikat fabric uphostered chair

One of the trends for 2009 (a trend that started in 2008) is ikat prints (ikat = style of weaving that uses a resist dyeing process similar to tie-dye on either the warp or weft before the threads are woven to create a pattern or design). These black lacquer chairs were give a make over with a gorgeous Ikat fabric from Madline Weinrib.

If you would like to see more Ikat prints: Design*Sponge recently did a great roundup on Ikat.

trend: bedroom as a living space

The bedroom is becoming more than just a room to sleep in. The trend is to make your bedroom into a private place where relaxation, romance and tranquillity is important.

The decoration is luxureous with a surprising mix of classic and modern elements. For instance, a classic bed from Vi-Spring is combined with the Vitra Slow Chair.

You can recreate this glamorous look by using luxureous fabrics and pastel colors for walls, furniture and accessories.

trend: black interiors

A few days ago I posted about a trend inspired by rural life. Another trend that can be seen this season is the use of black in interiors.

The classic combination of black and white can be combined with a accent color.

The images above, from the portfolio of UK designer Ilse Crawford, show a lot of black furniture and walls.

Black is not a color that first comes to mind when you are looking for a color for your kitchen walls but I think the black wall looks surprisingly good in this kitchen.

This black bathroom is very chic!

And also this bedroom looks very good in black.

trend inspired by rural life

One of the trends for this season spotted at the interior fair in Milan is inspired by rural life. Hand-made objects and environmental responsible materials are seen more often in interiors.

Grey colours combined with the trend colour indigo are part of this trend.

More and more we have the need to surround ourselves with beautiful and unique furniture and accessories. We want no mass production but hand-made items that have story to tell.

You can recreate this look with the items featured in the image above: knitted poofs from Dutch designer Ineke Visser, wooden table from Gervasoni, paint colour DK Lead nr. 118 by The Little Greene, pendant light Stout from Tom Dixon.

purple trend

Earlier this week I posted about Casa Lila, a beautiful riad in Morocco decorated in purple. If you love the colour purple then you are in luck this season as purple and lavender shades are everywhere to be seen.

If you are brave enough you can paint an entire wall purple like in the images above.

But if you prefer a more subtle effect you can choose to use accessories such as pillows or wall hangings in a purple shade.

grey, white & silver in vt wonen

I love the styling of this article that appeared in n this month’s issue of Dutch interior magazine VT Wonen. The combination of white, grey and silver is gorgeous. I was happy to see that some of the products featured in the article are also available at Le Souk. For example the white leather Moroccan poof with embroidery, the leather poof in silver, and the silver Morocan tray.
