tine k summer collection

tinek2012kopie.jpg

I see a lot of pretty pastel colors for the coming spring / summer season. I am not too fond of soft pink and mint green but I do like these beautiful purple and blue hues.

Danish company Tine K has a lot of soft purple and blue in their summer 2012 collection. These colors combined with white and beige create a clean and fresh yet warm look.

black & white love

I love these images shot by Marjon Hoogervorst for Est Magazine. The inspiring photos are accompanying a trend report by stylist Anouk B (who also styled the photo shoot). A trip to Paris affirmed Anouk’s appreciation for Parisian chic both in stores and on the street where the use of black and white is as strong today as in the time of Coco Chanel.

trend ‘simplify’

Another trend for this season is called ‘Simplify’. Minimalism has the reputation to quickly cool and impersonal, but with the right materials and matching eye-catchers the opposite effect can be reached. Modern minimalism is light, playful and earthy. No futuristic or useless objects, but functional object that are hand-crafted from natural materials. In the image above, the butterfly chair is placed in front of a plain wall. The bench made from scrap wood is from Piet Hein Eek. The black rosary from paper mache is designed by Miriam Franks and is available from the Frozen Fountain.

The candle holder looks robust but it is actually made from paper mache. The simple design comes from the Middle Ages. The bench from Dom van der Laan is made from red cedar (available from the Frozen Fountain).

trend ‘artistic’

One of the interior trends for this summer is called ‘artistic‘. It is original and artistic. Bright yellow is one of the trend colours. Strong patterns in black and white provide a solid basis in combination with rough wood. In this playful residential atmosphere there is not such as thing as bad taste. The only thing that counts is individuality and personal taste. Furniture and accessories have been carefully collected and have an emotional value. Both collectors items as recycled stuff go side by side. The colourful rug in the image above is from Téjo Remy. The wallpaper is Wallpower next 393039 from Eijffinger. The pillow is from is from Zomers bloemen.

The black and white fabric on the wall is patern Taikamylly from Marimekko. The pillow and tea towel are from the new H&M home collection. The table is from the Fenc collection. The vase, made from paper, is from Couzijn van Leeuwen. The beautiful embroidered poof in the image below is from Zomers bloemen.

wabi sabi

Many of you enjoyed yesterday’s post about Japanese shop Fog. If you a drawn to Japanese design you might want to read more about the Japanese philosophy Wabi Sabi. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of beauty that is “imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete” (according to Leonard Koren in his book Wabi-Sabi: for Artists, Designers, Poets and Philosophers).

The translation of wabi is “lonely”, in current usage it means: “a taste for the simple and the quiet” and incorporates rustic beauty, such as patterns found in straw, bamboo, clay, or stone. It refers to both that which is made by nature and that which is made by man. Sabi refers to the patina of age, the concept that changes due to use may make an object more beautiful and valuable. This incorporates an appreciation of the cycles of life and careful, artful mending of damage. Emma recently had a great post about wabi sabi on her blog, which you can read here.

black home accessories

Today some home accessories in black. Perhaps my preference for black has something to do with the weather: it is a dark and wet day in The Netherlands today…

dandelion clocks

This Dandelion Clocks fabric (above) and wallpaper (below) really fit in the turquoise trend I posted about.

The wallpaper and fabric are made by British company Sanderson. Click here to view stockists.

black & white house in florence, italy

I recently did some posts about using the colour black in interiors. This black & white apartment in the beautiful city Florence, Italy, shows how stylish a black interior can be.

The interior is designed by Italian architect firm b-arch studio. Perhaps you remember the gorgeous 18th century palazzo that they restyled.

turquoise: trend colour for spring & summer

The turquoise will be a trend colour for Spring and Summer. Above you can see a preview of Zara Home’s new collection.

Perhaps Spring and Summer seem far way (at least in this part of the world) but here are some suggestions for creating a summery atmosphere in your home: cushion with golden sequins arranged in a pretty floral pattern, porcelain tea cup with Egyptian pattern in turquoise and gold, a beautiful jug made from mouth-blown colored glass, multicoloured blanket with fringe, set of four tumblers in beautiful shades of blue and green, table runner in ramie with a gay, multicoloured, embroidered floral pattern, Japanese style plain silk cushion with matching bows, turquoise place mat with matching metallic thread and beaded edges. I personally can’t wait for Spring to arrive!

ikat fabric uphostered chair

One of the trends for 2009 (a trend that started in 2008) is ikat prints (ikat = style of weaving that uses a resist dyeing process similar to tie-dye on either the warp or weft before the threads are woven to create a pattern or design). These black lacquer chairs were give a make over with a gorgeous Ikat fabric from Madline Weinrib.

If you would like to see more Ikat prints: Design*Sponge recently did a great roundup on Ikat.
