our new house

Last week I promised you that I would share photos of our new house. Well, here they are! In December we will be the proud owners of this beautiful house. The images are from the house in its current state (we will be doing some renovating..).

Above are images of the back of the house, a converted farm house. It is located in the country side but only 12km from Amsterdam. The views on the meadows and water behind the house are stunning! There is a lot of property (according to Dutch standards); I will have to acquire some gardening skills.

This image shows the open plan living room and kitchen. The coming months will be about researching magazines and the internet, visiting shops etc. to get a idea what we would like to do with the house.

fedex is driving me crazy & have a good weekend

Not only the weather temperature is rising here in The Netherlands but my body temperature is rising (to a boiling point) as well. Why can’t companies do their job anymore? FedEx managed to loose a package that I sent to the UK some days ago. They can’t provide a tracking number (how the hell can that happen?), they do not know where the package is and they don’t phone me back as requested. One FedEx employee even had the nerves to tell me that I did not send a package at all. Basically saying that I was either a liar or a fool (sending imaginary packages). Very, very frustrating! This is the second time that I use FedEx as a courier. The previous time they delivered one package too late. So a 100% failure score for FedEx, which is quite amazing for such an established company.

This hasn’t got anything to do with design but I had to get this off my chest (and perhaps you can consider this as a warning for the next time you’re thinking about using FedEx as your courier..). Now I go outside to enjoy the beautiful weather here. I hope you all have a great weekend and I see you back on Monday!

PS: inspired by the beautiful weather some sunny images from Hotel Deseo in Mexico (images from design hotels)

50 ways to help the planet

This website presents 50 ways to help the planet. Some of these tips are very simple but they can make a huge difference!

tibet

My friend Pia is a talented stylist and she has inspiring blog. Today I would like to ask you to visit her blog and read her posts about Tibet and the beautiful people living in this country. It is very important to keep Tibet in the spotlight and I very much appreciate Pia’s effort. Perhaps you read Pia’s posts and add a comment as your support (and pass it on!). You can also sign this petition to support the Dalai Lama. Thank you so much..

merry chistmas from prague

I am wishing you a wonderful Christmas! I am celebrating Christmas in beautiful Prague, Czech Republic. The city is gorgeous at this time of year with lots of Christmas markets. I will take a break from blogging for a couple of days. Have a wonderful time and I hope to see you back soon!

Do you recognise the distinctive pattern? This is a Paul Smith Christmas ornament!

christmas tree made from wire

Another non-traditional tree! I actually have this one myself. I bought it some years ago. Unfortunately this tree isn’t available anymore (but if you are handy perhaps you can make it yourself from wire?!). I love the simple design, it looks very good in a modern interior. That aluminium tray with lights under the tree is a really good idea. I sell the exact same trays in Le Souk (they are between 60-100 years old!), so I will definitely steal this idea. I already have one on those trays on my dinner table. It looks stunning will a lot of tea lights!

christmas trees

Are you bored with the traditional pine tree as a Christmas tree? Use you imagination and create a unique tree! Here are some examples of non-traditional trees.

All these trees were part of a project initiated by the University of Arts and Design in Karlsruhe, Germany, in 2004. Every year all kind of ‘trees’ are exhibited. The way of realization is totally open, the subject should be taken rather abstract. The result is some interesting trees! Click here to see more of them.

fence of pencils

I found this image on Apartment Therapy but it has also popped up on a few other blogs. The origin of the photo is a mystery; it is not known who the photographer is and were this house with that special fence is located. But we do know that there must be a very creative (and daring) person living in that house!
