a copenhagen home

cc1.jpg

This beautiful home belongs to Danish designer Nina Kejser and her Italian husband Mario Ladanza. The house is located in the small town of Charlottenlund, just north of Copenhagen (Denmark).

cc5.jpg

The apartment is decorated in a typical Scandinavian style: lots of white (to let as much light in as possible) and wooden floors. The room are airy and bright with modern furniture.

I am loving those pillows (image above).

The stylish white kitchen (images above) is clean lined and has a black natural stone top.

modern country kitchen

Thank you for all your kind compliments on our new kitchen! I am so glad that the renovation is behind us and that I can now show you are new home! I will be posting more images in the coming weeks. Today some more kitchen inspiration. These photos, which I found on Emmas designblogg, are taken by German photographer Anne Naumann. I love the modern country feel!

By the way, the style files and Le Souk were mentioned in an article in the Financial Times this weekend. I am so excited about this! The articled is called A Blog’s life and was published the House & Home edition of the (printed) Financial Times. The article can also be read online here. The article is written by FT editor Caroline Taylor, who has her own blog Patchwork Harmony.

a rustic kitchen

(Images have been removed at the request of Light Locations)

I love this kitchen! It has a rustic charm but it still has a modern feel to it. This Victorian house located in Crouch End in London (UK). Tomorrow I will show you the rest of the house: every space is gorgeous! The old Aga stove is not only great for cooking but also gives a lot of warmth to the room.

simrin textile from brooklyn, ny

Simrin is an exclusive textile label from Brooklyn, New York. Inspired by vintage fabrics and organic forms in nature, they create standout prints in complementary colors perfect for mixing or matching. The collections use a combination of hand screen printing and metallic inks, making each one unique. This beautiful tablecloth (€54.95) is from Simrin’s Surya collection. The ochre colored print is hand screen printed on white cotton. The tablecloth is a perfect compliment to the Surya napkins.

These dishtowels are also from the Surya collection. The dishtowels are sold in a set of three towels with different patterns (as shown in the images).

The tablecloth in the image above is from Simrin’s Nature collection. The beautiful print mimics nature’s most artful forms. The tablecloth is a perfect compliment to the Nature napkins and teatowels. All these Simrin items are available from Le Souk!

scandinavian pot holders

These cute pot holders are from Etsy shop Stjarnkraft. This seller from Finland does not like mass production and she strive to make the majority of her items as individual as possible instead of repeating a lucky design over and over and over again. This beautiful set of two 100% cotton pot-holders depicts the traditional Swedish dalahäst (in English ‘Dala horse’ or ‘Dalecarlian horse’) crocheted by hand in black and silvery grey in a special technique with double threads, which makes the rear side a negative of the front side. The pot holders are also available in red and in blue.

scandinavian home in the netherlands

This beautiful house is located in my hometown The Hague in The Netherlands.

I love the kitchen! We have made similar choices for our kitchen in our new house.

The owner is Swedish which explains the Scandinavian style of decoration. That means lots of white!

The bedroom is serene and cosy.

wooden bowls & utensils by gary allson

Gary Allson’s work is inspired by observations and insights into daily living. His innovation is to generate solutions that are born out of a particular place. The materials and techniques used to create work are intentionally kept simple in order to maintain the emphasis on the idea.

His individually hand made wooden bowls, plates and kitchen utensils are suitable for both functional and ornamental use. The work is made in Cornwall, UK, from locally sourced sustainable timber: oak, beech, cherry and ash. Using traditional and digital techniques the work focuses on elemental forms with natural surface finishes and a contemporary identity. The bowls in the top image are made from burnt oak, round cedar, oak and walnut. The kitchen and garden tongs (above) are from burnt oak, beech and cedar. Visit Gary’s website for more information and to see more of this work.

ideas for creating a rustic style

In addition to yesterday’s post about rustic kitchens & dining areas this post gives you some ideas how to create a rustic atmosphere in your kitchen. For accessories try to find simple but well made every day objects. Baileys for example has a gorgeous collection! The owners of this shop also have writte two great books: Restoration Home and Recycled Home. In these books the Baileys share their passion for the simple and well-made things in life. The look they love is stripped back, focusing on the integrity of the materials.

In stores where they sell old building materials (for example J. van IJken in The Netherlands) you can find old butlers sinks and tabs. The sink in the picture above is from Lassco in the UK.

Materials such as (reclaimed) wood and galvanized steel can give a rustic feel to a home. Some ideas, starting at the left: French chair Tolix which is a classic, old fashion bin KNODD from IKEA, hand carved rustic wooden stool, Tolix stool, galvanized pedal bin from IKEA.
