Although it is still chilly outside, we are heading towards summer. Time for some outdoor inspiration! These images, shot by Dutch photographer Jeroen van der Spek, were featured in last year’s summer issue of interior magazine VT Wonen. I like the black & white theme which (to my surprise) creates a summery vibe.

Below some suggestions for creating a similar look:

1. Acapulco chair, 2. Zig Zag tote, 3. La Sardina camera, 4. VAGO chair from IKEA, 5. beach towel from Missoni, 6. rattan tote, 7. dress from Billabong.

Black & white paper lanterns.

“Creativity, a passion for simplicity, and dedication to the reclamation and re-use of materials, combined with unusual and individual treatments and processes, make ordinary objects extraordinary” is the motto of furniture maker and interior designer Katrin Arens, the owner of this gorgeous house in the Lombardy region, in Italy.

Katrin has made the furniture in her house herself. And good news, her beautiful furniture pieces are also for sale. Each piece is unique and handmade, using materials reclaimed; from derelict country houses, from cellars, and from carpentry studios.

Katrin: “The pieces themselves are as rich in history as they are clear in design – histories which are concealed beneath surfaces with strange shapes, patterns and scars. Thorough craftsmanship and treatments using traditional techniques give the pieces both a smooth finish and an enigmatic feel, exuding long-forgotten colours and scents”. I am in love with that kitchen!

Dunlin is an online shop that offers a new approach in furnishing a home. Curated by New York and Sydney based architectural interior designers Nicholas Barber and Alexandra Bond, Dunlin provides the new essential classics for the contemporary home.

Their collection is sourced from New York to London, East Hampton to Palm Springs. Dunlin is located in Sydney, Australia but luckily for us they ship to customers globally.

Dunlin: “Building upon an extensive network of New York based artisans, craftsmen and suppliers, developed from the designers years of working in Manhattan, our collection provides the background for a well lived life.”

Stylish online concept store BODIE and FOU has launched their first mail order catalogue. This gorgeous shop is known for their chic collection and their great customer services. Their catalogue is packed with gorgeous products, styling ideas and gift suggestions (great for the upcoming holiday season!).

If you are living in the UK you can request a paper version here. You can also view the digital version online which is available here.

Today I’d like to show you some things that caught my eye this week. The Rangoli patchwork bedspread in the images above and below is handcrafted from silk in India (found via Simple Blueprint).

I love the rich hues of the geometric design, which are complimented by aqua topstitching and backed with luxurious silk in fuschia.

Clockwise starting top left: Tom Dixon light made from brass with a high gloss white powder coat exterior; Tom Dixon’s fan chair which is a modern take on the classical Windsor chair; wooden macrame bangles from Eleanor Ford; hand-loomed silk cushion in jacquard weave.

Another Woonbeurs find is a cabinet collection called Fiele (which is Frisian for feel). These artisan cabinets consist of a wooden frame with a top layer of hand woven fabric. Every cabinet is unique because of the hand woven fabric which is different for each cabinet.

How does it work? You choose a cabinet (available in various models and sizes) and a specific fabric from their stock. Then the fabric is constructed on the cabinet. More information and contact details can be found on this website (which is in Dutch).
