Remember those beautiful carpets from Dutch designer Kiki van Eijk that were featured on the style files last year (it was one of my first posts!)? I received a message from Kiki that she now has a new design: a carpet made from bricks. Isn’t it gorgeous?!

Remember the rug with the tire pattern that was featured here on the style files not that long ago? Apartment Therapy also posted about this rug as well and this post got mixed comments. The general feeling is that people like the creative idea behind it but would not have the rug in their own home. Which was exactly what I thought about this rug. AMAZED, the company that created the tire rug, has some gorgeous designs in their collection which are better suitable for the ‘less adventurous’ like myself.

And here another design for people who want a more creative rug. Click here to see the entire rug collection of Madeleine and Dudley Edwards.

Not that long ago I saw this bag on Dutch blog Grijs and was struck by the simple beauty of it. Bag Take a way is designed by Diane Sterverlynck from Brussels, Belgium. The bag is a copy of our well known plastic bags, made with one singel piece of leather. This soft object can be easily transformed; changing from a flat surface (2D) to a versatile carrier (3D).

Modul_le, is a flexible carpet made of felted wool balls. Each round unit is independent from the others, so that one can change the form or utility of it. These soft and free elements can be laid out on a basis of velcro or used separately like several little cushions.
Diane Steverlynck follows a specific approach centred on textile and its multiples potentialities linked to object, space and functionality. The form, the aesthetics and the story of each design rise from a continuous research around textile, materials and use. Her products always keep a “textile” identity, meaning that her work is built up around principles such as surface, structure, flexibility, scale, folding. More information can be found on Diane’s website.

I can’t remember where I have seen this rug, but I am intrigued by it ever since. Perhaps it is not something I would buy for my living room but I love the creative idea behind it. The rug with tire print is designed by Madeleine and Dudly Edwards. These applied artists from the UK transform rugs into sculpted masterpieces. Click here to go to their website, where you can see some of their other very original designs.

I love nature inspired designs. If you do too then I am sure you will appreciate this post about the gorgeous carpets from 2 Form Design. The carpets, resembling for instance a dry riverbed or desert sand, are produced in-house and (hand) made from the highest quality materials. The small design studio from Norway is founded on the principles of creativity, utility, and innovation. I like the fact that they are dedicated to the expression and appreciation of beauty and that their wish is to encourage positive emotions through their designs. And more importantly, they have a strong sense of ethical, social, corporate, and economic responsibility! Check out their website for more information.

Born and raised in The Netherlands, a country that is known for its flower culture, Celia Suzanne Sluijter is inspired by flowers and plants. The designer is always looking for applications to plant ‘nature’ as you do when you garden. In The Netherlands trees are longer bare than in leave. With her flower and plant printed fabrics and carpets, Celia creates her own permanent piece of nature.

Check out Celia’s website to see all of her nature inspired designs. Click here to see her gorgeous curtains.

Like The Netherlands, Finland has many great young designers. One of them is Yuki Abe, a student at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki. The Finnish designer has previously been working at a interior architecture office but is now concentration on the final stage of his study. His design motto is “Form follows fun”. His I’m so lazy carpet is certainly fun! Invite your friends, gather around the carpet and have a picnic in your living room. For more information about this design, which is still a prototype, you can contact Yuki at yuki.abe@welho.com.
The Rug Company works together with well known designers to create the most gorgeous rugs. The UK based company features an extensive list of designers from Diane von Furstenberg and Paul Smith to Matthew Williamson and Vivienne Westwood, each offering gorgeous designs in their own signature style. Christopher Sharp, founder of The Rug Company, says that quality is key. “Every rug we offer is a unique creation. All are made by hand; nothing that we do is mass produced ore standard”.

In 1997 Sharp, then a video editor, and his interior designer wife, Suzanne, started selling antique and traditional oriental rugs. They decided to invite ten interior designers to work on a contemporary collection and its launch was an instant success.
Rug Swirl, featured in the top photo, is by the hand of Paul Smith. Diane von Furstenberg is the designer of the Tribal Diamond rug, made from Tibetan wool.

My personal favourite is this gorgeous rug designed by Matthew Williamson. The rug’s beautiful colours mix very well with that wooden cabinet. On the Rug Company’s website you can browse through their extensive collection and choose your favourite design.

Christien Meindertma’s label FLOCKS is the result of her cooperation with a farmer in Wales. The Dutch designer created a clothing collection from the wool of a small flock of the farmer’s sheep. Each garment in the collection was produced from the wool of one single sheep. Her new Black Sheep collection is celebrating the black sheep, the odd one out in the flock. The collection is knitted from a variety of rare breeds from around the world, from black angora rabbits to alpacas. The gorgeous hand-knitted rug for example is made from the wool of 18 merino sheep.

You can see Christien’s full collection on her website. Her designs can be purchased from the Frozen Fountain in Amsterdam and Kakitsubata in Tokyo. The rug is made on demand, every size and color is possible, please contact FLOCKS if you have any questions (christien@theseflocks.com).

Tord Boontje designed this gorgeous rug for Nanimarquina. This Spanish company, created in 1987, is well known for their colourful hand tufted, loomed and knotted rugs. They work with various well known designers, such a Boontje. His rug, Little Fields of Flowers, is available in shades of purple, red and green. This rugs shows, like all of his designs, that Boontje is inspired by nature. Visit the Nanimarquina website to see the rest of their stunning collection. Good news, they have retailers all over the world!
(I just noticed that Ohmygooshness also posted about Nanimarquina, check out this great blog for more beautiful rugs.)
