OUR SUMMER HOLIDAY IN CROATIA

This summer we have spent some wonderful weeks in Croatia. The first week we stayed on Sveti Klement, as small Dalmatian island part of the Paklinski islands. We loved our bohemian style small resort Palmižana, which is owned by the Meneghello family who for over a hundred years has been devoted to creating a paradise of cultural tourism. It is a great place for kids as there are no cars on the island and they can run around freely. The water is crystal clear and our son spent entire days snorkeling and discovering sea life (he is still talking about the octopus he saw..). The atmosphere on the island is laid-back and friendly. However during July and August, the island get busy with day-trippers and yachts. The best time to visit is May-June or September-October. We were on the island at the end of July but we did not find this much of a problem. Yes it got busy in the afternoon but mornings were pretty quiet and after taking a 20-30 minute hike we managed to find beautiful little bays with hardly any people around.

After one week on this lovely island we took the ferry to Korcula, another island in the Adriatic Sea just off the Dalmatian coast. Here we stayed at Tara’s Lodge, a small boutique hotel (with 17 rooms & suites) with a contemporary, casual and friendly feel set in a beautiful turquoise bay. The beachfront position of the hotel made it the perfect place to unwind. We experienced a heat wave while in Croatia so we spent most of our days here on the beach, cooling of in the water. Most of the photo’s featured in this post were taken at Tara’s Lodge where we had such a wonderful time.

The last days of our holiday we stayed in Dubrovnik. This old city is just beautiful, it is listed on UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. The old town is flocked by tourists though as it is one of the most prominent tourist destinations in the Mediterranean Sea. Despite the fact that is was crowded (and boiling hot) we did enjoy our two days here before flying back home. In Dubrovnik we stayed at Alberto Apartments which is beautifully located in the old town. The friendly owner is very helpful and the apartment is good value for money.
