From Africa with love is a new showroom/gallery located in the heart of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The gallery is showcasing and selling contemporary interior design by some of today’s most talented South African designers. Shop owner Mariette de Haan (image above) was present at the Woonbeurs showing some of the products that she carries in her collection.
The cool canvas wall hanging (in top image) was also on display in the VT Wonen huis. I also love the cardboard pendants in the image above. If you are in Amsterdam and you would like to visit Africa with love, this is the address: Brouwersgracht 188A.
A few days ago I featured a house on Île de Ré. Today’s post gives you a little bit more information about this island off the west coast of France, which is a lovely holiday destination. There are 10 villages on the island, each with its own character. Saint Martin is the capital where glamorous boutiques and antique shops hidden in its tiny lanes can be found, alongside good restaurants and bistros. The town of La Flotte is well known for its vibrant outdoor market.
House are painted white with shutters of duck egg blue or sea green. The government doesn’t allow development over two storeys and all new buildings must be build in the same style as the remainder of the island.

Also food magazine Delicious is present on the Woonbeurs. I was immediately drawn to their beautiful booth as I loved the styling of it. I wasn’t suprised to learn that Marieke from Pimpelwit is responsible for the styling (concept by Maaike Koorman). Great job!

This beautiful home is located on Ile de Ré, an island off the west coast of France. It belongs to painter Catherine Le-Van and her husband live. Both are passionate about design and various iconic design pieces can be found throughout their house.
While the decor is modern, the house itself is traditional. It was designed by Pascal Poulain, an architect from La Flotte-en-Ré. The large glass doors and windows offer breathtaking views of the rugged coastline and the ocean.
Inside the home, Catherine and her husband wanted to bring a touch of modernity. Contemporary furniture is mixed with antiques brought back from travels or found on antique flea markets. For example, in the living room (top image) a lamp from Isamu Noguchi stands on an old Vietnamese table.

I had the pleasure to be invited to join the Blogger Meetup organised by publisher Sanoma Media during the Woonbeurs in Amsterdam. Last Saturday around 30 Dutch bloggers got a special tour around this home design fair.
During this yearly event design labels and companies (small and big) are showcasing their latest products. Also all Dutch interior magazines are present with a booth which is actually a house, decorated in the latest trends and in the style of that particular magazine.
Kirsten Jassies, content manager Home Deco at Sanoma Publishers, took us around the fair introducing us to the various houses. Today I am showing you the VT Wonen house where we were greeted by VT Wonen’s head editor Monique de Ruiter.
The VT Wonen booth/house was designed by VT Wonen stylists Frans Uyterlinde and Fietje Bruijn.

Today I’m loving … this beautiful Balinese inspired outdoor area. IKEA pieces, such a the rattan pouf and the kilim rug, are mixed with accessories from the far East.
This home, which is located in Barcelona, Spain was designed by Interior Designer Mireia Pla of Studio Vuong. As the single storey home of 100 square meters isn’t very large, the search of natural light became an absolute priority.
This was achieved through an installation of fixed glass, large sliding doors to the terrace and three large skylights in the ceiling of the kitchen.
Furniture pieces are made from recycled and natural wood. The comfy sofa is upholstered in velvet.

In addition to Friday’s post about bright colors, today some more neon! A bit of tape and colorful wire can make a plain fitting and light bulb look special. Dutch shop Snoerboer has wire in many colors. You can also by the fittings here. This idea and image is from Dutch interior magazine VT Wonen.
These leather clutches are from Etsy shop {cny}. They are dyed by hand using an acrylic leather dye.
Vibrant colors were already a trend in the fashion scene but now I am seeing shades of hot pink and orange also been used in interiors. In the image above (found via Apartment Therapy) the vibrant pink in the bath rug really pops out in the predominantly white bathroom
