christmas decoration

It is the time of year to think about Christmas decorations. This week you will be finding a lot of Christmas inspiration on the style files!

kerstscandi3.jpg

I personally prefer rustic ornaments, not too colorful. The style of decorating featured in these images is perfect!

kerstscandi2.jpg

Gold tones are combined with white and soft pastels. Very stylish and not overdone!

deer duvet cover

bynorddeer.jpg

The Deer duvet cover from by nord looks beautiful in the photo (available in kids and adult sizes). It matches really well with the gorgeous Kili bed. This Danish design is not only beautiful but also practical as it actually grows with your child from the birth all the way to approx. 7 years old. Very Scandinavian!

handrail made from branches

handrail1.jpg

Although we have been living in our house for two years now there are still a list of unfinished projects. One of those projects was making a handrail for our stairs. We finally finished the handrail this week and I think it is gorgeous. We have used branches as a handrail to add a rustic feel which can be found throughout our entire home.

Carpenter Michiel helped us executing the idea we had of using branches. If you are looking for a good carpenter in the Amsterdam and Waterland region, I can fully recommend Michiel. Contact me if you would like to have his details.

rugs by patricia urquiola

rugspaola1.jpg

One of my favorite designers Patricia Urquiola has designed a stunning collection of rugs and poufs for Spanish label GAN, Gandia Blasco’s carpet and textile brand. I just love every single rug in the collection!

rugspaola2.jpg

The Mangas poufs have the same distinctive textures and colours as the rugs.

rugspaola3.jpg

The Mangas (Spanish for sleeves) collection is based on a patchwork of different wool knits, to create a collection of various typologies with different shapes, going from Manga corta (short sleeve) to Manga de campana (bell-shaped sleeve). The result is a series of beautiful carpets in a variety of textures and colours.

perivolas resort on santorini, greece

santorini2.jpg

I could really use a holiday right now! Unfortunately baby Kick is still too little but I am already searching for places where we could go to next year. The Perivolas Resort is one on my wish list of place to stay.

santorini3.jpg

This gorgeous hotel is poised on the cliff high above the Aegean, on the island of Santorini in Greece. The interior is stunning, I love the (subtle) use of color. There are no TVs by the way as it is a place to switch off. A place to read, recharge, relax, sleep, rest, and dream. I am wondering though if they will appreciate quests with small children..

santorini1.jpg

Originally designed as a family home, Perivolas still feels like a private residence. Intimate in scale and atmosphere, every house is different. Built by native craftsmen using local materials, the interiors embody Cycladic style, with its organic forms and smooth surfaces. Breezy rooms are naturally cooled by sculpted stone walls and vaulted ceilings pierced by skylights.

santorini6.jpg

Beds are built into snug alcoves, adorned with a posy of hand-picked flowers. Niches and archways are scooped out of whitewashed walls, low-slung sofas offset by hand-woven rugs and cushions in vivid fuschia and lilac. Timeless and quietly glamorous, interiors are pared down so that nothing distracts from the show-stopping views and nothing disturbs the intensity of the stillness. Simply perfect!
