At the Venice Architecture Biennale 2010 Lisbon firm Aires Mateus Architects are exhibiting these houses with sandy floors called Casa Areia. The project comprises seaside accommodation made of wooden frames covered in natural fibres. Sand covers the floor in the kitchen and living space, connecting them to the beach and landscape outside.

The architects: “This project was build on the sand that is a natural and abundant material that was transported to the interior of the common places (the living room and the kitchen) giving this way the connection between the environment and the new and totally integrated construction.

Dutch designer Lenneke Wispelwey graduated in 2008 with a collection porcelain called “de zoete inval”. One month later she started her own studio in Arnhem, The Netherlands.

Lenneke loves working with ceramics, but seh also works with other materials. She feels her work should make people smile. This is what she also tries to accomplisch in her styling work.

colors from the mediterranean

Although it is still summer it more looks like autumn here in The Netherlands as it has been raining for days now. I will be preparing some autumn inspired posts for September but in the mean time I continue showing summer houses and summer colors. After all, according to the calendar, it is still summer!

Today gorgeous rich colors from the Mediterranean! Borrowing color from the surrounding sea and sky as inspiration, the Mediterranean has an abundance of deep blues, teals, and tans, but lavenders and greens and other deep colors sneak their way in through the flora of the area.

diy: hanging garden bench

Today I am loving … this DIY project for a hanging bench that I found on Sweet Pauls’ blog. Paul used a simple a white painted bench from IKEA with the legs sawed off. Two holes were drilled on the end of each side and a thick rope was pulled threw it. Then hang it from a strong tree branch. Indeed the perfect place to read the paper while sipping on a cocktail!
