day home collection

day1.jpg

This is the new fall/winter home collection from Danish fashion house Day Birger et Mikkelsen. The colors of the season are WARM with red, pink and purple, COLD with blue and army and an ethnic GOLD to tie them all go together.

day2.jpg

The Grand Bazaar in Istanbul gave inspirations and thoughts to colors and theme for this season. This 450 year old covered shopping arcade has – apart from being an historical architectural sight and a huge tourist attraction – alleys and squares with everything from copper pots to diamond earrings, and of course beautiful antique textiles from the Ottoman kingdom.

romantic alpine chalet

chalet.jpg

Louise and Paul Venning moved from London to the French Alps with their children four years ago in search of a more relaxed pace of life. Their chalet is different from the standard alpine chalet, which is usually wall-to-wall pine. Nestled under a blanket of snow, the 3-bed chalet boasts a surprisingly fresh interior, with whitewashed walls and modern kitchen appliances. Thanks to an abundance of sheep-skin rugs, underfloor heating and a huge wood-burning stove, their home radiates a friendly warmth.

stella mccartney’s kids collection for gap

gap.jpg
Stella McCartney’s kids collection will be launched on 2nd November at select Gap stores in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., France and Japan. The 70-piece line, which McCartney said she designed to “find a kind of balance between Stella as in what I do for adults…and how I see kids, really,” takes inspiration from both the design signature she has developed in her own collections and her practical experience as a mother of three. I especially like the Stg Pepper Beatles jackets!

an all-white lake house

lakehouse1.jpg
This stunning house, designed by Murdock Young Architects, is located on a lake in Montauk, New York. The home has white painted wood floors, walls, and ceilings to reflect light and accentuate the open spaces.

lakehouse2.jpg
I especially love the painted white ceiling beams! The wooden dining table and benches give a bit of colour to the room.

lakehoue4.jpg
The architects: “Designed to accommodate a growing family and close friends, this lake-front compound includes a 4,500-square-foot main house with 50-foot lap pool, an 1800-square-foot three-bedroom guest house, and a barn. An aggregate of smaller, informal living spaces carefully composed to disguise the bulk of the building and create a variety of views and experiences, each structure centers on a great room open to the northern water views and the southern sun and breezes.

lakehouse5.jpg
The structures combine modern design with the local gabled vernacular of cedar shingles and white-painted wood: large expanses of glass, painted pine board walls, exposed structural trusses, gray-painted pine floors, and driftwood-clad storage elements that subdivide the interiors.”
