butterflies by catherine swan

catherineswan.jpg
These beautiful butterflies are made by Australian artist Catherine Swan. Hand cut from vintage magazines, Catherine’s paper butterflies appear to be specimens from a nostalgic technicolour world perpetually fluttering between the 50s and 60s. Featuring powdery lilacs, candy pinks, baby blues and the same shade of orange you’d normally find in soft centre chocolates, these Papillons de Papier are meticulously cut from the articles and advertising found in dusty old Esquires and Playboys. You can visit Catherine’s store here.

outdoor inspiration

outdoor546.jpg
It is rainy here in The Netherlands and for the first time in months it is chilly inside. But I refuse to believe that summer is over and autumn has started. So today some outdoor inspiration! I like the construction of the multiple oil lamps hanging above the table.

louis poulsen toldbod 120

louis polsen lamp
Louis Poulsen’s Toldbod 120 pendant light comes in 5 new colors. The colour scheme is named Northern Lights. The colours were found in the Scandinavian landscape. Attempts were made at visualising fields, shores, skies and flora in the beautiful and delicate shades, the strong and effective nuances, in clean and bold colours. As a design element, the fixtures are adorned with coloured cables in daring contrasts underpinning the colour combinations of nature.

Misty Blue is inspired by the budding dawn and combined with a mauve cable, Black Berries is black and inspired by the blackberry bush with berries and stalks or leaves, therefore the green cable. Yellow Blossom draws inspiration from the beautiful yellow nuances of the dandelion and the combination with a white cable lends a particular freshness to the fixture. The clouds inspired Cloudy White, which gives a breath of fresh air to any interior design with its turquoise cable. Grey Thunder, mat and rustic, was inspired by a rape field during a thunderstorm, with the obvious yellow cable. I like how this modern lamp fits into this somewhat rustic interior (image above). Simplicity is one of the keys to Toldbod’s unique adaptability to any style and architecture!

hanger hook by alain berteau

hanger
I’m loving this! Pick up Wood by Belgium designer Alain Berteau is a simple hanger hook that requires you to take a walk in the woods and pick up a fallen branch to complete the object and turn it into a hanger. The project was designed for the brussels based non-profit organisation Les Petits Riens, which provides social reinsertion via the collecting and selling of second-hand clothes and used furniture.
