piet boon’s caribbean beach house

Last week I posted about a beach house designed by Piet Boon. Today’s post features Piet Boon’s own house on the island of Bonaire. The house designed by the man himself of course.

Also for this house a lot of natural materials have been used. Like in most Caribbean houses, the wind through the open windows works as a natural air conditioner.

Sigh … look at the colour of the ocean!

giant rug by christien meindertsma

A long time ago when I justed started this blog I posted about Christien Meindertsma’s giant knitwork. I just found this picture (via Les Carnets du Design) of a piece Christien created for the exhibit Design for a Living World, which just opened at the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum in New York. The exhibit aims to tell a unique story about the life-cycle of materials and the power of conservation and design. Christien used wool sourced from a sustainable sheep ranch in Idaho to create a large scale knit rug a “flock” of smaller components, each one made from 3.5 pounds of wool, the yield of a single sheep. Then she sewed them all together to make one giant rug.

another gorgeous house on formentera

As so many of you loved the house on Formentera that I featured last week, today another house on this beautiful island. I hope you’ll enjoy this post as well!

Like Christina’s home, also this house has that unique, rustic charm.

The house is owned by a lady named Ingrid, who apparently has good taste and an eye for detail.

This kitchen (image above) proves that you don’t need to have a lot of luxury items to have a stunning kitchen. It is simply gorgeous! I am also loving the outdoor areas (images below).

table for sale

When moving in together Ivar and I had a lot of furniture that we did not need anymore. We have kept them in storage for months but have now decided to sell them. Most of our furniture have been sold this weekend through Marktplaats (= Dutch Craig’s list). I had never expected that things would sell that fast (within 24 hours!). We are also selling this unique table featured in the image above. When posting this image on the style files last year many of you commented how much you liked the table. So for those loving the table and living in The Netherlands (the table can not be shipped) I would like to give you heads up that this table is for sale (starting price is 300 euro). You can send me an email (danielledelange at gmail) if you’re interested. The four white chairs (Danish design) are also for sale by the way.

swedish summer cabin

Today’s summer house is located on one of the islands of the Stockholm archipelago. This beautiful cabin belongs to production designer, artist and interior decorator Carouschka Streijiffert.

In summer Carouschka trades her busy world for a quiet life in her cabin. She wasn’t impressed with the cabin when she first saw it, it was the island that she fell for.

Carouschka got permission to build on the island The result is a main building, a studio and three smaller houses for storage and guest space.

All buildings where designed, built and decorated by the artist herself with the help from carpenters from a neighbouring island.

I wouldn’t mind spending my summer in this beautiful little place!

piet boon uitdoor furniture

On my wish list for outdoor furniture is this set designed by Piet Boon (in the previous post you can see a Caribbean beach house that he designed). Seat GIJS is made from teak and has water-resistant cushions. Table ANNE is available in a low and in a high version. The seats and table would look fantastic on our terrace in Zuiderwoude but I’m afraid they will remain on our wish list for a while. High quality materials have been used for Boon’s furniture which also mean a high price tag..

beach house on bonaire by piet boon

Another post in the series about cool summer houses! This house in located in the Caribbean, on the island of Bonaire to be exact.Bonaire belongs The Netherlands Antilles. As part of the Netherlands Antilles, Bonaire is accordingly a part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

This stunning beach house is designed and decorated by Piet Boon. Boon is a Dutch furniture maker and interior designer who started his career as a contracted. I love the sober style of his designs, with an eye for quality and beautiful, natural materials.

The house belongs to a Dutch tv host, who uses it as a holiday home for his family. Not a bad place to spend your free time!

Isn’t this a gorgeous kitchen? Who doesn’t want to cook with a sea view..

The bedroom (above) and bathroom (below), both beautiful.

amsterdam: bakery niemeijer

It is time for another Amsterdam post! The best bakery in Amterdam is Gebr. Niemeijer. Perhaps it’s even the best bakery in The Netherlands! I often travel 30 minutes just to get their delicious bread.

What makes their bread so special? They get their flour from an organic windmill in France and they use a special French oven to bake their breads. Everything is delicious but I especially like their croissants, baguettes, French pastries and their homemade jam. Address: Nieuwendijk 35, Amsterdam.

white tomtom

I don’t write about electronic goods very often but I do like gadgets. They can be fun such as Nintendo’s Wii (which is on my wishlist) or very convenient such as Sonos’ wireless music system (which we recently purchased for our new house). Two gadgets that I can not live without are my iPod and my TomTom. I am happy to hear that there is now a white ladies TomTom available. The White Pearl is a special edition navigation product with a pearlescent design and ‘swirl’ pattern
