ceramik b

Ceramicist Basma Osama lives and works in Montreal, Canada. First known for her small series of handbuilt pieces, she has been devoting her time since 2006 to setting up Ceramik B., her studio for conception and production for porcelain tableware. Visit Ceramik B’s website to see her handcrafted and exclusive objects.

About the pieces: “Inspired by organic silhouettes, the pieces carry an invitation. Their shape and texture naturally find their way to the hand. Each piece is conceived to be a statement by itself and yet to smoothly mix with other pieces to make a color contrast or to complement the shape and the function. The colors are thought in such a way to enhance the lines without overriding them and to allow the pieces to adapt easily to any environment.”

ready made design competition

If you love design and good ideas, then take part in this great design competition organised by Das Rote Paket! The task: Create and build a “ready made light”! Your lamp should be made of prefabricated parts. It doesn’t matter if it is a floor lamp, pendant or chandelier provided that the costs for all parts do not exceed 40 Euros. And it should be possible for others to replicate the lamp.

The price: Of course you’ll get fame and reputation among the internet community, but it is also fun and makes you feel good to be a lamp designer! If that is not enough, you might be the happy winner of an extraordinary, original sausage rug WURSTTEPPICH, a Das rote Paket shopping voucher or at least a little surprise … Click here for more information. Get your creative juices flowing! The deadline is 30th of April 2009. The best designs will be showed here on the style files of course!

panton’s plastic chair

What do you think of the Plastic Chair? I never know what to think of this chair (too plastic?) but I do love them in this interior! Some background information: Danish designer Verner Panton spent many years thinking about how to produce a plastic chair moulded in one piece. Together with Vitra, he came up with the first prototypes in the 1960s and Panton Chair went into series production as of 1967. Unlike the cheaper Panton Chair Standard in solid plastic, Panton Chair Classic is made of rigid expanded plastic and has a lacquered surface.
