skylar’s lace floor stencil

I love this floor at Maryam’s Peacock Pavilions . The stencil has been used for the floor in her daughter Skyalar’s room, hence the name Skylar’s lace. The stencil is for sale at Royal Design Studio. Isn’t that floor stunning?!

rare groove orchestra

I normally don’t talk about music here on the style files but I want to make an exception for my boyfriend’s new CD. His Hammond Funk band, the Rare Groove Orchestra, was founded in 2003 and they now have their very funky their second album out! If you like funky, booty shaking party music then you might want to listen to their album here. If you like what you hear, you can buy the album here on iTunes (€9.99) or here if you would like to order a hard copy (€15 incl. world-wide shipping).

domino editor deborah needleman’s tribeca loft

These are images from Domino editor Deborah Needelman’s cool apartment in Tribeca, New York. The living room shows Deborah’s taste for pale and off-white colours. The apartment is a mix of Swedish table and chairs and big, cheap paper lanterns. In the master bedroom (right image), a mica-tiled globe hangs above a headboard Needleman designed and had made.

The daughter’s room is done up in inexpensive sari fabric from Queens, while their son’s room has a Paul Smith rug.

delfts blauw

Last year I did a couple of post (you can find them here and here) about designers and stylists being inspired by ‘Delfts blauw’. Today I found some gorgeous images on Sweet Paul.

These are from a story he produced for Country Living. Paul was inspired when he was looking at some old pictures of his Grandmother, who collected delft ware.

philip dixon’s moroccan retreat

At first sight you would think that this gorgeous house in located in the medina of Marrakesh, Morocco. But can you believe that this 6,000 square foot compound is right in the middle of the crowded streets of Venice Beach, USA?

The house belongs to fashion photographer Philip Dixon who was inspired by his trips around the world. He created this Moroccan retreat almost 20 years ago.

The Moroccan decor and style have been consistently carried out through the entire home and garden.

Throughout the house beautiful antique pieces of furniture and accessories can be found.

What do you think of this house? I love the style and think that this house is gorgeous but perhaps it is a bit too minimalistic (with all that concrete)?

wall with photo frames

In my previous home I had one wall in my hallway covered with photo frames. I am thinking about doing the same with one of the walls in our new home. Today some examples of decorating a wall with photos. The image above shows a great selection of simple photo frames with black and white pictures. Ikea sells a good selection of frames by the way.

A very simple and easy way to liven up a wall is to put all your favorite pictures into little clip frames and then group them together.

A mini art gallery is created in this dining room. The Jerez dining table is from Habitat and the Bertoia side chairs are from Knoll.

The walls in the image above are lined with photos mounted in simple, but striking black frames. These echo the geometric patterns of the windows and doors.

la cerise sur le gateau

“La Cerise Sur Le Gateau” (the cherry on the cake) is Anne Hubert’s textile label that she started in 2005. Anne, a graduate from the college of applied arts, lives and works in Paris, France.
“From fairy tales to Wong Kar Wai movies, from Polaroid images to Rinko Kawauchi photos, from holiday souvenirs to notepad scribbles, Anne Hubert takes inspiration from the sunny side of life and feeds her imagination with it. She then reinterprets it with taste.”

Click here to learn where Anne’s gorgeous products are being sold. Her online shop will be opened soon.

more wall decorating ideas

In addition to this post and this post, here some more ideas for decorating your walls! If you would like to follow the modern trend for words and lettering to decorate a wall, be sure to mix and match different fonts, sizes and colours so that it won’t be boring.

Using multiples objects always makes a striking statement. In the image above rustic African woven baskets are used.

You can arrange old and new picture frames together to maximise their impact, and hang at unusual levels.

Give pieces a function and the finish won’t look contrived. These Kashmiri cut-work panels make an unusual headboard.

In the images above a wall is covered with a geometric, textured pattern to create interest in a white living room.
