  Hi Danielle,

  Eventjes in het Nederlands omdat ik met hetzelfde probleem zit en een oplossing heb gevonden. Chloor-rubber verf van Sigma deze kun je laten mengen in alle kleuren bij de verfwinkel.

  Hoop dat de verbouwing spoedig loopt, hier erg langzaam. Groet, Yvonne

  Did you ask for information for waxed concrete for walls one of my friend used it for their bathroom and it’s really great almost similar aspect than tadelakt and you can DIY …

  you can use waterproofing materials used for pools, they come in variety of colors and don’t look messy. we also use glass painted on the opposite side, then glued onto the walls of the shower…

  I’m also having a tile-free wall in my bathroom – right next to the shower. Check the link and you you’ll be able to see what i mean.
  The sales assistant at Intercodam (am sure you know it) said that there are all sorts of water- and mould-proof paints available these days, so you don’t have to have tiles everywhere. I’d suggest plaster and waterproofing where the wall joins the floor by a professional, followed by a waterproof paint in the colour of your choice. Good luck!

  I stayed in this hiphotel up in the mountains of northern Thailand. The villas are beautifully designed and some of the bathrooms are merely concrete screed with teak. You can find some photos in their website here:

  Has anyone ever tried using Alucobond or similar materials in a bathroom environment? Alucobond can be cut with woodworking tools and if grooved on the back, it can be bent to form watertight joints. It does dent because it is aluminum over a compliant core. Look is rather “high tech” or industrial but might work in some situations.

  It is a very nice product – the color you choose can really make it look good. You can also get it at Mendard – who knew!

  Waxed concrete sounds good!
  Stucco or spatulato might come off.
  I saw something nice, but it sounded expensive: crashed marble pouder in some sort of tadelakt.
  The bath showrooms have these fantastic walls…

  As soon as you have the solution, please post about it: I could need it for my bathroom renovation (in Germany)

  I have a tileless bathroom since 2 years. After it is a new built house we tried to do this as good as can be.
  First of all, there is a special mat (kind of rubber-material) on the floor an it reaches up on to the wall, so no water can drop in the corners between wall and floor. then the walls were treatet with a special water-resistant plaster. We used an acrylic-Floor, the kind you find in industrial spaces too. It ist water-resistant, comes in all colours and we used it in the whole room, so the shower is barriere-free. The walls were paintet with a double coat of boat-paint. i guess it is not really healthy, but its the only paint that works. we tried normal water resistant-paint before and we got black stains on the walls. i recommend you ask an architect or some other professional.

  wij hebben in de badkamer een pleister op cementbasis gebruikt, dat volledig waterbestendig is en kan gepolierd worden als beton…
  De naam is “COMPAKTUNA”.

  Hi Danielle,

  Wij zijn een stylingbureau en raden onze klanten in dit geval meestal Divisorio stucwerk aan, dat is een stucwerk op basis van een kunstofmengsel en is vergelijkbaar met een PU-gietvloer maar dan toegepast op de wand. Het lijkt op Tadelakt, maar het voelt wel aan als kunststof en niet als een cementwand. Divisorio stucwerk is verkrijgbaar via Senso Vloeren. Ook een optie is de wand stuccen met Pandomo (wordt verwerk door bijvoorbeeld Gebr. Den Nijs, http://www.gebrdennijs.nl). Dit is wel op cementbasis, het lijkt heel erg op Tadelakt maar is stukken goedkoper. Alleen is dit stucwerk niet geschikt voor de natte ruimtes (zoals in de douche of tegen het bad aan).

  Waterafstotende verven zijn prima voor de badkamer, maar echt niet geschikt voor de natte ruimtes. Het stucwerk afsluiten met een matte epoxy zou wel kunnen werken, daar hebben we geen ervaring mee. Maar als je ook maar iets hebt overgeslagen bij het epoxyen, kan het vocht doordringen in de wand en wordt het stucwerk poreus, vochtig en kan er schimmelvorming ontstaan.

  Succes met het vinden van het meest geschikte materiaal!

  Betaalbare tadelakt in de douche

  Wij zochten ook een oplossing voor tadelakt daar het veel te ingewikkeld en veel te duur is in Nederland.
  Bovendien is marokaanse tadelakt van heel slechte kwaliteit omwille van de ambachtelijke produktie.
  Maar wij zochten een natuurlijke alternatief met dezelfde fraaie uitzicht als de originele tadelakt en na lang zoeken stoten wij op een materiaal in Belgie met dezelfde eigenschappen als tadelakt maar gemakkelijk te plaatsen en met garantie.

  Het is stukken goedkoper, watervast in de badkamer en ook de douche, et onderhoudsvrij.

  you may have already solved your problem re the tiles, but if not you could consider the cement finish I used at my house….I am happy to send pictures of how I did it but cant see how to attached files to the post
