no tiles in the bathroom

I don’t want tiles in the shower area of our new bathroom. Does anybody know a solution for this (perhaps a special plaster)? I know of tadelakt but it is too expensive. I am very curious to know if more people have a tile-less bathroom!

holiday ornaments from paloma’s nest

These ornaments are inspired by the idea of the Ancient Romans that birds are the messengers of the Gods. Etsy seller Paloma’s Nest has put her own spin this tradition- giving these little doves the responsibility of carrying these meaningful words and names on their backs for the holidays. The hand cut ceramic dove, made of white clay, is adorned with a small wooden tag, which is hand stamped with the word or name of your choice. Isn’t this cute?!

happy thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to all US readers! This beautiful photo is from Sweet Paul.

disposable paper products by wasara

Unfortunately these beautiful disposable products are currently only available in Japan. Wasara has created an elegant line of disposable paper products. By replacing wood pulp with non-wood materials such as bagasse and reeds, resources can be used efficiently.

About Wasara: “Underlying the concept of Wasara is the legacy of the Japanese aesthetic and value sense. Japan has a tradition of good manufacturing backed by excellent skills and techniques, one of the most refined food cultures in the world, and a spirit of hospitality and courtesy. These are essential for days of spiritual fulfillment.”

fatboy slim’s stylish yacht

This beautiful sailboat, named Barracuda, belongs to Fatboy Slim (aka Norman Cook) who renovated the classic wooden yacht to a modern and very stylish place to stay

The vessel is based in Portisco Marina, Sardinia, and can be rented by lovers of boutique hotels or by sail fanatics. You should bring your wallet if you’re interested..

The boat is stylishly decorated with Designers Guild fabrics and Cowshed products.

A interior stylist helped with the interior decorating. Fatboy Slim: “We didn’t want a Gin Palace super yacht—we wanted it funky.”

A mixture of teak, mahogany, pine and beech is combined with soft furnishings and hand-picked retro trinkets.

trend: black interiors

A few days ago I posted about a trend inspired by rural life. Another trend that can be seen this season is the use of black in interiors.

The classic combination of black and white can be combined with a accent color.

The images above, from the portfolio of UK designer Ilse Crawford, show a lot of black furniture and walls.

Black is not a color that first comes to mind when you are looking for a color for your kitchen walls but I think the black wall looks surprisingly good in this kitchen.

This black bathroom is very chic!

And also this bedroom looks very good in black.

trend inspired by rural life

One of the trends for this season spotted at the interior fair in Milan is inspired by rural life. Hand-made objects and environmental responsible materials are seen more often in interiors.

Grey colours combined with the trend colour indigo are part of this trend.

More and more we have the need to surround ourselves with beautiful and unique furniture and accessories. We want no mass production but hand-made items that have story to tell.

You can recreate this look with the items featured in the image above: knitted poofs from Dutch designer Ineke Visser, wooden table from Gervasoni, paint colour DK Lead nr. 118 by The Little Greene, pendant light Stout from Tom Dixon.

a stunning finca on mallorca, spain

Son Gener is beautiful country hotel, with ten suites and a large swimming pool and spa. With the sea only a few kilometres away it is a great place to escape to!

Just a few years ago this 18th-century farmhouse in the quiet north-east of the island, between the villages of Artà and Son Servera, lay in ruins. But then a Majorcan architect-designer converted this property into a rural residence of understated elegance and great creativity.

What struck me most seeing these gorgeous images, is the beautiful light. The luminosity is created by the sun shining on the light ‘marés’-stones.

The interior of Son Gener is a celebration of light and form, too. Nothing in excess, just carefully selected sculptures and sofas, plants, tables and lamps that seem to create a backdrop for the walls and the structure of the building.

There are ten spacious rural-style suites with wonderful terraces and extraordinary views. In the main building, there are large living rooms with fireplaces and a dining room where you can enjoy a typical meal accompanied by an excellent wine from the house’s wine cellar.

Isn’t this heaven?!

Visit Son Gener’s website for more information and bookings.
