casa orlandi by sabrina bignami

This gorgeous house is Casa Orlandi Guesthouse, an 18th century palazzo in Prato, Italy. It has been renovated by the Italian architect and founder of b-arch studio Sabrina Bignami.

The traditional decor in this 18th century home is mixed with different styles. The vintage Saarinen tulips chairs fit surpisingly well with the rest of the decor.

The frescoes are simply stunning. They had to be restored as the old murals were covered by wall painting. The painter of the frescoes was Luigi Catani a very famous painter during “Granducato di Toscana” in the 18th century.

Sabrina Bignami about her Casa Orlandi: “I‘ve bought this decaying nobleman’s house for a bit money and I try to star a sensitively restoration…playing with old and new, four years ago. The Italians are great at ancient and are also great at modern interior design but they are not so hot at usually mixing the two!”

The designer loves vintage furniture. Some of the classics that she bought in the past, such as the tulips chairs, are used in the palazzo.

Aren’t those bedrooms stunning?

Casa Orlandi now is Sabrina Bignami’s home and a little guesthouse with 3 rooms. For more reservations and more information about the guesthouse you can write to palazzo.orlandi@gmail.com.

bedrooms with a touch of colour

Today’s bedroom post features bedrooms with a touch of colour. The bed head in the image above is made from silk and brings a boost of colour to the room. Isn’t that one gorgeous bed?!

Oversized buttons and a giant crochet bedspread play with scale in a pared-down setting, while flashes of scarlet and gold turn up the heat. A vintage painting adds a touch of humour and colour to the scheme (image above).

The pink bed adds colour to the room but the soft pastel color also creates a calm atmosphere.

I love the duvet cover with red embroidered flowers in the photo above. The bench doubles as a colorful bed head and useful storage surface.

i’m back!

I’m back! It has been very quiet from my part for the last couple of days. As I was not able to access the admin part of the style files I could not publish any posts. To my big relief this problem has been solved now!

I hope you all have had a great weekend. My weekend was exhausting… As you might know we recently bought a new house. We will be moving in December but I had to move out of my apartment before October 1st. So I, and three truck loads of stuff, moved into Ivar’s small apartment where we will be living (it will be more like camping) for the next two months before moving to our new home. This is how Ivar’s apartment used to look like and here you can see how it looks now. We will be organising all my stuff in the course of the week but at the moment I feel like one of those people that is obsessed with collecting stuff..

serene bedrooms

I hope you have enjoyed my posts about kitchens. Now it is time to move to a different room (but I will do an occasional kitchen post..). Today I start with a series of post about bedrooms. I already shared with you some images of bedrooms some weeks ago, you can find this post here.

Today’s post is about serene bedrooms, decorated in neutral colors. The vintage vibe in the bedroom in the image above is created by layering old linens, lace and soft damasks for a sense of romance and nostalgia. The walls are painted in greyish whites.

A contemporary four-poster bed is combined with antique finds and richly patterned fabrics for an eclectic scheme that’s inviting. The bed is from MDF Italia.

For the headboard in the picture above a pretty fabric has been used. It is a great combination with rustic grain of the bedside table.

The screen in the photo above is used as headboard. The beautiful screen is designed by Kelly Hoppen for BHS, and the Panthella Lamp is from The Conran Shop.

Small space can be maximised by transforming an unused corner or alcove, as in the image above.

Her photographs are characterized by the use of natural light combined with a touch of studio lighting which gives rise to a calm casualness in all her subjects.

Castles in the Sand consists of villas Dar Beida and Dar Emma, which are available for rent. The retreat is located in a dusty coastal town called Essaouira in Morocco.
