Fun but too much for me!!!
I don’t really get what they were thinking:
“it’s the Egg Chair’s 50th anniversary,
how can we completely ruin its legendary, simple design? Maybe we can wrap a ‘fun patchwork’ around it?”
No thanks, I’de go for the original…
I think you are right. I too would go for original. These are way too much for me too! I hesitated posting the chairs as they are not my thing but was curious to know what others would think of them.
These are not good! I’m the lucky owner of an egg chair, and although it’s beaten up and the leather is torn, I think it looks fantastic compared to these. I agree with Johan_vm – what were they thinking??
But thanks for the post all the same, Danielle! It’s interesting to see what designers come up with sometimes.
As I see it it’s all about publicity and this collection has deff. given “The Egg” a lot of publicity…There’s 50 different chairs and they’ll be on display in museums worldwide. Anyway…I rather have this one than any one of the patchworks ones: http://kostasvoyatzis.wordpress.com/2008/01/30/the-golden-egg-arne-jacobsens-egg-chair-launches-its-50th-anniversary/
I think they’re pop and fun, really.
Thanks for sharing your opinions! It is interesting to see what works for some, doesn’t work for others. It would be boring if we all had the same taste..
I don’t know what to think of it really. It is a smart move because patchwork prints are popping up everywhere! We are going back to the seventies baby:-P.
If you are interested in learning more about the egg chair, their is a resource/fan site over at http://www.the-egg-chair.com
Thanks for pointing this new design out.

Funny. I like the patchwork. But that fits only at home.
If anyone would like to come and see the beautiful brown leather and suede 50th Anniversary Egg Chair in the flesh, we are currently displaying it in our stunning 25’000 sq ft contemporary furniture showroom in Pinner, Middlesex.
