a home in the UK

I am too busy to write a long post. So today a post with a lot of images and inspiration, and a limited amount of text..

This stunning architect designed house is located in Guildford, UK. I love the large open-plan kitchen/diner with the Eames chairs!

bamboo chairs

I forgot to include these chairs in last week’s post about bamboo furniture and home accessories. The chairs are gorgeous and deserve to be mentioned! The one in the top image is from Dutch designer Remy Veenhuizen.

And this chair is from another talented Dutch designer, Lotte van Laatum.

singita lembodo lodge, south africa

A few weeks ago I wrote about photographer Nicolas Matheus. His gorgeous portfolio includes photos from the Singita Lembodo Lodge in South Africa’s Kruger Park.

Singita Lebombo Lodge is situated in the Nwanetsi Concession Area in the Kruger National Park. The lodge is located in a remote wilderness with the largest concentration of game in Kruger. It rests lightly among the ancient boulders of the Lebombo Mountains, overlooking the African plain where two rivers meet. The lodge is beautifully decorated with natural materials. Staying here would be a dream but I am afraid it will be an expensive one..

fuchsia kitchen

Who would have thought that a fuchsia colored wall would look this good in a kitchen?!

design from brazil at espasso

Every day I receive tons of email from companies, designers and PR firms promoting their products and asking for a mention on the style files. 95% of these emails are about products that have nothing to do with the topics I normally write about. I can not understand that these PR firms think that I would write about air conditioning systems or even the latest bra technology.. But yesterday I received an email from Espasso. And I am happy to write about this showroom as they have a gorgeous collection of contemporary and vintage furniture!

Espasso, located in New York and Los Angeles, is dedicated to modern and contemporary design from Brazil. They are excelling in the market for Brazilian furniture designers, ranging from mid-century masters such as Oscar Niemeyer, Sergio Rodrigues and Joaquim Tenreiro to today’s names like Isay Weinfeld, Carlos Motta and Arthur Casas.

Espasso: ‘The unique appeal of Brazilian furniture design results from blending of Brazil’s diverse cultural influences and a respect for traditional style. Its sophistication derives from the country’s rich artistic and intellectual heritage, which is reflected in each piece selected for our collection’. It is worth checking out Espasso’s website which offers a very complete, up-to-date range of their beautiful furniture pieces/

a renovated 18th century italian villa

I recently posted about Taschen’s New Seaside Interiors book. I got this book a few days ago and I can tell you that it is gorgeous!

One of the most beautiful properties featured in the book is this amazing home in Positano, Italy. This 18th century villa was renovated in 2004 by Lazzarini Pickering Architteti, an architectural and design studio based in Rome, Italy.

The entire house (and outdoor areas!) are gorgeous but I especially love the combination of ethnic accessories (such as the antique suzani rugs) with the modern lines of the architecture.

more bamboo

There are a lot of bamboo products on the market these days. As said in yesterday’s post bamboo is a great alternative to wood as it grows very quickly and is more eco friendly than timber. The beautiful lights in the image above are made from bamboo by Propellor Design.

Clockwise:veneerware plates and cutlery from Branch, bamboo bowl from dandi, bamboo plates from re:modern, sushi table from Legnoart, bamboo Spring chair from Modern Bamboo, bamboo nestings baskets from re:modern.
,
The Becca stool (above) from Modern Bamboo is 100% made from bamboo. The stool is available from Design Public in various colours (natural, ebony and cherry).

The case of Asus’ Ecobook (above) is covered in bamboo. And of the plastic used for this laptop is labeled and recyclable; it is lined with cardboard; there are no paints, sprays or even electroplating used on its components. Not only environmental friendly but gorgeous looking as well!

PS: if you would like to do a good deed today, please visit this website and read Matthew’s story. I know that there are lots of similar touching stories out there, this one crabbed my attention today.

bamboo furniture by modern bamboo

I am pleased to see that designers are discovering the potential of bamboo. It is a great alternative to wood because of natural beauty, and the fact it is technically a grass, not a wood, it grows very quickly and is more sustainable than timber. Modern Bamboo has a great collection of bamboo furniture. The company was founded in 2004 by Anthony Marschak who started working with bamboo while looking for a new flexible material for skateboard decks.

They combine classical simplicity with innovative design, offering furniture and custom design work using Bamboo and Reclaimed Wood. Using only the highest quality materials and the latest manufacturing techniques, their furniture embodies elegant functionality, seamless detail and timeless craftsmanship. Visit their website to see their entire furniture collection.

I will post more bamboo furniture and home accessories tomorrow!
