hansen kitchens from denmark

Danish company Hansen Living makes the most beautiful kitchens. Designed by the Danish architect Knud Kapper, the solid wood kitchens are hand built by cabinet makers at their own workshop. They only use the very best materials in a style likely to outlive superficial trends.

Hansen’s primary aim is to satisfy their customers by designing and producing objects of beauty and quality. I love their motto: ”Designed by architects, built by craftsmen – enjoyed by you”. Above and below you can see some examples of their beautiful kitchens.

Susan Sera, aka The Kitchen Designer, is the exclusive representative for Hans Living in the US. Susan has a beautiful and informative blog about kitchens. Check it out if you want some more kitchen inspiration!

dining room inspiration

I would love to have a kitchen that is large enough to have a large dining table and some chairs. Above and below some dining areas in very different styles.

réanim project by 5.5 designers

I like the idea behind 5.5. designers’ Réanim project. Common objects, many of which are to be found on rubbish tips, on the streets, in homes or left unsold and stocked in quantity at industrial sites, were given a second life by the French designers. The idea is neither restoration (return them to their original form), nor to change their intrinsic use(change their function) but to give them a new life (by standardising the intervention): simple actions that can be reproduced by anyone or by a new industrial process.

kitchen inspiration

The coming days will be about kitchens! I have tried to find images of different styles of kitchens. Modern, traditional, country … what is your favorite kitchen style? I personally love a mix of modern and traditional elements.

The top image is from Marie Claire Maison. The beautiful photos above are from the portfolio of stylist Eva Lindh. Martin Dyrlov from Denmark is the photographer of the gorgeous images below.

By the way, I am on holiday this week (yeah!). I will continue posting but perhaps not as frequent as normal. See you soon!

madame kury

Brigitte Kury has sent me an email to introduce me to her shop. Madam Kury is located in Vienna, Austria. Brigitte sells vintage finds and handmade items made individually so that no two will ever be the same. Pillows, bags or hats are made of original 60′s/70′s fabrics for instance. All fabric items are made locally in the shop. The good news is that Madam Kury also has an online shop and ships internationally. Click here and start browsing the shop now. The images above are from the shop in Vienna. Isn’t the decoration gorgeous?

chocolate pencils as dessert

These chocolate pencils are the result of a collaboration between Japanese architect and designer Oki Sato and patissier Tsujiguchi Hironobu. The last one is the man behind Tokyo’s boutique dessert shops Mont St. Claire and Le Chocolat de H. Subtle tableware effectively displays the gourmet chocolate. The “pencils” come in a number of cocoa blends that vary in intensity, and chocophiles can use the special pencil sharpener that comes with the plate to grate chocolate onto their dessert.

From the same designer come these soy sauce, salt, and pepper containers. The three containers are differentiated through a combination of sight and sound, or words as sound. Instead of relying on symbols and letters, the mouth of each container is the shape that a human mouth would make when saying the name of each product: “yu” for “shoyu”, which means “soy sauce” in?Japanese, “shi” for “shio”, which means salt, and “ko” for “kosho”, which means “pepper”. The designer: “In an age when we rely increasingly on e-mail for communication, and conversation fades from the dinner table, “talking” subtly links people and things through the power of the texture and sound of spoken Japanese”.

the amazing staircase

I recently saw this gorgeous staircase on Apartment Therapy. The staircase is designed by London-based Levitate Architects who came up with this ingenious solution to solve a book storage problem. Isn’t this genius?!

arte luise kunsthotel, berlin

Dozens of artists, mainly German, decorated the rooms of Arte Luise Kunsthotel in Berlin, Germany. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, artists camped out in this neoclassical building in the Mitte district of East Berlin until it evolved into a hotel in 1999.

All rooms were decorated by a renown artist, whereby the entire room was included in the concept. Guests walking into a room at the hotel find themselves within a work of art. Each room is unique, each room an artistic proposition, a museum, a gallery, an artwork and a place to inhabit.

This has been made possible by over 50 artists who accepted the hotel’s invitation to make a contribution. In designing different rooms artists have created scenarios that go beyond their work in the studio and reflect on the time, place, and situation of the traveler. The entire room is taken into consideration, usually including the furniture and other decorations. The artists receive approx. 5% of the profit from “their” room as payment a one-time compensation for materials and other costs, and a number of free overnight stays.

Visit the hotel’s website to see more of the rooms, or to make a reservation.
