new zara home collection

Zara Home has now the new fall/winter collection in store! Above and below you can find some images from their latest catelogue. It is worth getting a copy of the catalogue as it is packed with gorgeous and inspiring images. You can also view the catalogue online, just click here.

As you can see Zara is following up on the grey trend as well. They have lots of grey coloured furniture and home accessories in their collection. I love the warm effect which is created by combining various shades of grey and wooden furniture (as featured in the images above).

furniture by finn juhl

Last week a posted about the House of Finn Juhl. I received a lot of email from readers asking me where they could buy the furniture that was displayed in the house. Today the license for producing Finn Juhl furniture lies solely with the company Hansen & Sorensen in Denmark. Above and below you can see some of the designs that are currently being produced.

For more information you can visit Hansen & Sorens website or send an email to info@onecollection.com. You can also try to find vintage furniture of for example Ebay. Unfortunately, the colorful cabinet is not for sale. Finn Juhl made only one copy of this gorgeous cabinet.

teasets by christine misiak

Christine Misiak wrote me an email introducing her beautiful teasets. Christine was born in Poland but grew up in the UK. Her final major project at university was her tea sets, which she took down to London for the 2007 New Designers Exhibition, and whilst there she received the Peter Walker award for innovation in product design. From there Christine received a lot of interest in her tea sets. One of her green sets will be in the October/ November issue of Home & Garden Magazine. Her black set will be on display in the Opus Interiors shop gallery in Gosforth in Newcastle this month alongside Dutch Designer Maarten Baas’ smoked furniture range. Christine will also be exhibiting at 100% Futures this month in London.

The tea sets are all about re-using things that people throw away and disregard. For example with the green set, the silver parts were taken from an old battered tea set. The desired components were removed from the old set, cleaned, filed and sanded them then soldered them to the bodies that Christine made myself, therefore creating a mixture of new and old. This contrast between the new and old is extremely visible and creates a pleasing aesthetic. Visit Christine’s website to see more of her very beautiful work.

missoni patchwork vases by stephen burks

Stephen Burks is one of the most recognized American industrial designers of his generation. He and his New York studio Readymade Projects have been responsible for creative design direction on projects ranging from retail interior and events to packaging, lighting, furniture and home accessories.

The Patchwork vases were commissioned by Angela Missoni, as part of the Missoni Mogu Fun Fun exhibition which was designed and coordinated by Readymade Projects. The vases are the result of months of experimentation with Missoni fabric cut-offs from the fashion collections as a kind of recycling project using the brand’s one-of-a-kind woven fabrics adhered to existing vases sealed in a resin coating. Click here to visit the Readymade Project website where you can see all their other projects and designs.

hilary anderson-barr’s knitted vessels

The work of UK designer Hilary Anderson-Barr has been featured in magazines like Elle Decoration and House & Garden. In producing her unique and quirky knitted vessels Hilary’s intention has been to raise the perception of knitting as a craft – usually functional and domestic – by associating it with the art of the potter, whose skills have from ancient times been much appreciated. The use of yarns in their natural state echoes the basic materials of the potter. Hilary doesn’t have a website but if you are interested in her work, you can contact her at andersonbarr@btinternet.com.
