wanted: interior magazines from denmark and sweden

I love Swedish and Danish home& interior magazines. Unfortunately they are not available here in The Netherlands. Is there someone living in Denmark and/or Sweden that would like to do a magazine swap? I can send you some great Dutch magazines! Please send me an email (danielle@style-files.com) or leave a comment if you’re interested!

invisible shelving system for books

I love this invisible shelving system as it is an unique alternative to a regular bookshelf! Sticklebook creates the illusion of a line of books hanging unsupported on the wall. An alternative to a regular bookshelf, it comprises an aluminium bracket and combed strip that grips the cover and pages of paperback books.

I have to agree with contemporary design guru Ron Arad, who has praised Sticklebook by saying “it’s new and it’s original”. The size of a single shelf is 50cm/19.5inch which hold approximately thirteen paperback books. Of course you can install as many sticklebooks as you like in a row to make the length of shelving as long as you want or in many rows for an invisible multi-level book shelf. Sticklebook is available from online design shop POAA for the affordable price of €30.

my balcony: styled with ikea

As I love gardening, but don’t have a garden, I can spend hours on my balcony tending the flowers and rearranging pots and plants. Most of the pots and furniture come from IKEA. I love rocking chair GULLHOLMEN (top image) which is made from banana fiber (€59.00/$59.99).

Stool ALSEDA (€29.95/$29.95) is also made from banana leaves. I have several of them in my house! The silver tray and tea pot are bought on a trip to Marrakech, Morocco, several years ago. As you can see, I am ready for summer. The only thing that is still missing is the sun! (We have had lots of rain in this part of the world and not a lot of sunshine).

interior with retro furniture

I have a preference for white interiors, as you may have noticed. As promised, this weekend I show you a house with a bit more colour. I do love those turquoise walls, not to mention the gorgeous collection of retro furniture that can be found throughout the entire house.

peacock chair by hans wegner

While doing some research for yesterday’s post about Wegner’s tree-legged chair, I found another gorgeous chair by this designer. Despite the chair’s almost postmodern design, Hans Wegner designed the peacock chair as far back as 1947. With a clear resemblance to the peacock feathers, the back of the chair is constructed in soap-treated or lacquered ash, with the choice of matching or contrasting arms in teak. The seat is made from woven paper cord. Today the chair is being manufactured by Danish company PP Møbler.

photographer paul massey

Last week I wrote about this stylish house in the UK. The gorgeous images were shot by Paul Massey. This British photographer has lots of other beautiful photos in his portfolio. Take a look at some of his interior and still life photos!

three legged shell chair by hans wegner

Danish modernist designer Hans Wegner has created some beautiful furniture. One of my favourites is this tree-legged Shell chair. The simple design is just gorgeous!

The chair was originally introduced in 1963. After producing a few limited editions, the production stopped. Luckily the chair was relaunched in 1997. In spite of its three-legged base the chair stands well on the floor and doesn’t easily topple over. More information can be found on the website of the manufacturer, Carl Hansen. In the US the chair is available from Room & Board.
