orla kiely interiors

Through Homebug I found out about these Orla Kiely ‘design packages’. British company Luxe Interior offer these packages to individuals, developers, investors and hoteliers in Dubai.

I am not too fond of the idea of standardising interiors with design packages. It leaves little room for individuality and creativity and every interior will look very similar. But as I know that there are a lot of Orla fans out there, I wanted to share share these images anyway.

jorine

Check out the beautiful work from Jorine Oosterhoff! This Dutch designer mainly works with porcelain and ceramics for her own label JORINE. She lets her products become characters, like individual things that seem to live their own life. They have their own identity and personality. Sometimes they seem to come from a fairytale-world.

“Tea Time” is a high tea-set based on different kind of characters. They live their own life on the table like a little nation. The beautiful vases are made from porcelain and are glazed on the inside. Visit JORINE’s website to see more of her beautiful work!

ftf design studio

FTF Design Studio is the furniture line of Roseann Repetti and her husband, architect West Chin. This New York based couple has designed and decorated many celebrities’ homes. Reacting to the overall enthusiasm they received from their clients and peers, West and Roseann decided to launch a home line created for their private clients to the public. Their collection of (serving) trays is beautiful designed: the trays are minimalistic yet very elegant.

Roseann Repetti cultivated her sensibility for fabrics, textures and home via her extensive 17 year career in fashion. She has been a fashion editor & stylist for various magazine titles, including Elle, Italian Vogue & Marie. Roseann brings a very luxurious, modern understanding of design to FTF. West Chin’s philosophy is to combine comfort and versatility with a modern, clean and pragmatic approach. West is constantly in pursuit of merging style with functionality, a process that he was exposed to at a young age through his architect father. FTF is short for “First to Fly”, which is the translation in Chinese of West’s middle name, Yit Fee, which symbolizes the first born son in America.

On their website you can view their entire work. Their home products are available from Unica and NY Suite.

wooden wall sculptures

Darrin Wilson, one of the founders of Beearo, sent me an email about their latest product. Beearo has fused art and engineering to create removable, self-adhesive real-wood veneers which enable homeowners to design highly-resolved, dramatic environments quickly and efficiently. With these wall sculptures you can instantly transform the look of a room.

I think these wood sculptures are a welcome change to the many plastic wall stickers that are available. I love the natural feel and look of the material. Check out Beearo’s website to see all their designs. Thanks for your email Darrin!

lampshade made from concrete

The Concrete Light is made of partially transparent concrete. It is this unique combination of concrete and light that inspired Dutch designer Marieke Rongen to design this lampshade. By turning on the light, little spots of light appear in the concrete. The shape of the lampshade descends from traditional lampshades, but in combination with these materials and with the size, it’s a complete new design. I have seen this gorgeous lampshade and I have to say that the design is more stunning in real life. The size of the lampshade is 80cm high, and it weights 35-40 kilo.

Another one of Marieke’s great designs is this lampshade made from copper. For more information or to see Marieke’s complete work, you can visit her website.

adorable smoke detector chick-a-dee

I love, love, LOVE this design! There are a lot of people who haven’t got smoke detectors in their homes because these devices are so ugly. The Chick-a-Dee is anything but ugly! This smoke detector, designed by Louise van der Veld, is disguised as an adorable bird that starts squeaking when sensing smoke. Louise is the winner of the design competition “Mooi uit de brand” (Dutch for “Rescued in style”), organised by the national association of insurers, that challenged industrial design students to design tools that improve fire safety at home.

Isn’t the bird adorable? And it can save your life too! The Chick-a-Dee will be in shops next year.

a gorgeous house in sussex, uk

For some weekend inspiration, I want to share with you these images of this gorgeous house in Sussex, United Kingdom. I remember seeing this house in a British magazine a while ago. I saved the article as I especially loved the kitchen. And of course those classic Saarinen tulip chairs… I also love the idea of grouping together pictures of family, friends and holidays. I have a wall in my hallway covered with photos, all in white picture frames.

window seat

The Windowseat Lounge, designed by Mike & Maaike, is suitable for both public and private spaces. It is designed as a comfortable refuge from the hustle and bustle of lobbies, airports or busy home environments. By taking architectural elements (walls and ceiling) and applying them to a chair, the San Fransisco designers have explored the idea of sub-architectural space, creating a room-within-a-room complete with its own unique perspective.

update naketano contest: and the winners are…

I received lots of entries in reaction to the Naketano contest that I organised last week. I asked you to tell me who had designed the chair featured in the post. The chair was the Butterfly Chair, also called the B.K.F. Chair, designed by the “Grupo Austral” (designers Jorge Ferrari-Hardoy, Antonio Bonet and Juan Kurchan) in Argentina.

I asked my boyfriend Ivar to draw two winners from all the correct entries. Sia from The Netherlands has won t-shirt Silvia and Contessa Truijillo from New Mexico, USA, is the lucky winner of the hooded dress Lari. Congratulations to both of you! Thanks to all of you for entering the contest, I will soon have another quiz with great prices!

Thanks to Naketano for donating these fab prices!
