Lately I have been seeing a lot of Matryoshka doll inspired designs. This Russian nested doll is a set of dolls of decreasing sizes placed one inside another. Did you know that the name Matryoshkac omes from the Russian female first name “Matryona”, which is traditionally associated with a corpulent, robust, rustic Russian woman?

These fun Matryoshka inspired money bank dolls are from Present Time. Click here to see all the different dolls available. Are you rather looking for some more authentic dolls? On ebay you would be able to find some beautiful vintage dolls.

Have you ever seen these? A bit gruesome, but a nice take on the Matryoshka doll. The dolls were by Adam Bayer and were shown at the Wurst Gallery…
Hmm, I’ve been noticing this too. Even, oddly, at a local car boot sale, I keep seeing them. I’d love to find blanks to paint on sometime.
These dolls are popping up everywhere!
Great idea Heather, to find blanks ones and paint them yourself (especially when you are that talented as you are!). By the way, congrats with you Etsy shop, I love it!
The “baby” ones are great babyshower gifts!
I visited Moscow 10 years ago and stayed at the Aerostar Hotel Moscow, 37 Leningradsky Prospekt. While shopping in the hotel giftshop, I purchased a matryoska doll with only 3 or 4 pieces and it was the man, woman, chicken that laid the golden egg. It was rather small, about 4 to 5 inches tall as far as I can remember. I gave it away as a gift when I returned home and now wish I still had it. I’d love to find one like it or similar. I love Russia and hope to go back someday. I live in Oklahoma in the U. S. If you can help me find one I would be so grateful.
