It is the time of year again to light up some candles in your house! This gorgeous collection of candles holders are designed by Roderick Vos for Dutch design label mooi.
The Bold series were developed from Vos’ fascination with laser cutting technology. With the use of a laser, a form or pattern can be cut in sheet metal with extreme accuracy. The Bold collections includes the Little Bold (table version), the Menorah Bold and the Big Bold (floor version). Available from online design shop POAA (they ship world-wide!).
Check out these cool bags from Vlieger & Van Dam, a young design label based in The Netherlands. The Guardian Angel bag, their first in a series of striking bags, has recently be included in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. The Dutch designers noticed that people’s perceptions and the fear of violence grew to be greater than the number of crimes actually committed. As a response they wanted to give people the impression of feeling secure, ‘arming’ them with a Guarding Angel handbag.

I love this chair! It reminds me of the Bubble Chair by Aarnio Eero, which is on my list of things I would like to have but cannot afford. The Kata chair, designed by Enzo Berti for Ferlea, is made from solid, steam bent rattan. The spherical cocoon-like seat is suspended from the ceiling by way of a stainless steel suspension system.

What did inspire the Italian designer? Enzo Berti: “I saw a chair like this at Ringo Starr’s house in the early seventies. That is not as impressive as it sounds as I was only there in my capacity as a minicab driver.” Check out Ferlea website for more information. The Kata chair is available at Espacio

I would like to wish all US readers a happy thanksgiving! I hope you have a wonderful day with your family and friends.
Marcel Wanders needs little introduction. But did you know that this Dutch designer has created a stunning collection of consumer home appliances? Theatre is a wooden side table in which a home cinema set is integrated. The DVD player and the central speaker are built in on the left side and on the right side the sub woofer is hidden. Visit the HE website for more information and to see the complete Wanders collection.
Established in 1913 in The Netherlands, design company Pastoe is a company richly endowed with history. Their key role in the development of Dutch design has always been characterised by sober minimalism. They recently launched their latest product, the Leather Lounge Chair’04 designed by Maarten van Severen

The Leather Lounge Chair is refined, essential and down to earth. The side view is almost linear, but when viewed from the front this chair takes on a surprisingly different appearance with its single-sided armrest stretching from the seat like a wing. The armrest and comfortable seat – thanks to the natural elasticity of the leather and the pleasing angle of the back of the seat – give the Leather Lounge Chair ‘04 the comfort and ease of an armchair, whereas the shape gives the chair a more chaise lounge feel.
The Leather Lounge Chair ’04 is the result of four years’ hard work. During this process Maarten van Severen sadly passed away. His family continued to work on the project after Van Severen’s death. The completed design is not only very close to the original sketches, but also to the prototype Maarten van Severen himself made.

When heart meets skills, something beautiful appears, says Frederik Van Heereveld. This designer and product developer is enthusiastic and passionate. His talent and love for design resulted in his own design initiative FEEK. It is steeped in modern design with functional, comfortable but most importantly contemporary furniture.

One of his latest design is the Q-Couch, a playful, modular seating solution with infinite range. Each segment is formed from expanded polypropylene (EPP), a lightweight plastic often used for car parts and packaging. These segments can be joined together to any desired length, shape and colour. Today a set of one-seaters, tomorrow a long couch to fit all your friends. It is a creative answer to the contemporary atmosphere of eclecticism and individuality.
The Q-couch element is available, in sets of 2 pieces, in 8 colours. Later in the year extra features, such as armrests and bends, will be added to the range. Click here for more information and to see Van Heereveld’s other designs.
